Mary’s Artistic Talents

10
Nov

For this week’s Feel Good Friday, we are celebrating the awe-inspiring creativity of one of our young people. Mary has an incredible eye for fine detail in art and crafts. She is currently working towards her Art GCSE and is excelling in her textiles in particular. Her love of the characters from Alice in Wonderland and Pirates of the Caribbean has spilled into her creative and artistic designs. She has sought inspiration from Jonny Depp in particular and his role as Mad Hatter.

Her exceptional eye for detail can be seen in her felt artwork of the Mad Hatter in two different presentations as seen in the photo below. Mary has carefully studied the details of this character and has been able to capture the tiniest of details from the exact colour of the wispy hair poking out from under the hat to the waist coat on his body. This love of felt is not limited to Alice in Wonderland characters but follows a similar theme of the fantastical and imaginary with her creating a beautiful and intricately detailed fairy on a toadstool. The focus, commitment and passion for art and creativity can be clearly seen throughout her arts and crafts. In school she is in the process of designing a waist coat along the theme of Alice in Wonderland and has been immersing herself in the world of textiles. Not only is she interested in creating this piece of clothing but her interest in creating has also included buying various materials to make a tote bag. All achieved in one sitting.

Children in Care Council (CIC) and school have also called upon her talents as her artwork has recently been selected to be included in the CIC business card design and last term, school chose her design for the school sports day banner and described it as being amazing.

We are incredibly proud of her achievements and her passion for learning particularly in the arts and cannot wait for her next artistic creation and can see where her future lies. Art is an area that we, at Young People at Heart, fully support and embrace, and encourage all our young people in placement to develop and share with us their individual artistic and creative talents.
